Reading and Writing Circles

ESL Reading and Writing Circles
English Language Learning Program

This program helps adult learners build everyday English reading and writing skills in a supportive, small-group setting. Whether you want to read letters and forms, write simple messages, or communicate with more confidence, Reading and Writing Circles meets you where you are.

This program is designed for adults learning English at a CLB 1–2 or CLB 3–4 level.

About the Program

Reading and Writing Circles is a free, group-based program offered in community spaces across Calgary. Sessions focus on practical, everyday English skills that help you navigate daily life, support your family, and work toward your goals.

Each program runs for 10 weekly sessions. Facilitators use a learner-centred approach, meaning the program is designed around your needs, your goals, and your pace.

I can read any letter that comes to the house. Once in a while I get stuck on a big giant word but it's much better than before. I can open any envelope and read it. I learned in this program to help each other. I can help a second person who came in new and share what I learned in this place."

Land Acknowledgement

FESA acknowledges that the land upon which we work and call home is on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney), the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Districts 4, 5, and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We are grateful to work on the territory that situates Calgary, which is known as Mohkinstsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyâxe Nakoda, as we endeavor to build a more literate and learning society allowing all to reach their potential.
