Our Interview with Jenna Truong

Leading up to our “Pie in the FESA” Fundraiser, we’ll be publishing a series of interviews that we’ve done with our participating Board Members. You’ll have a chance to get to know them a bit more and learn about their favourite pies, what they’re most looking forward to about the pie event and much more!

Our fourth interview is with Jenna Truong, who is a Vice President on the FESA Board, and a participant in this year’s fundraiser.

FESA: What is your favourite pie?

JENNA: Pear and apple pie.

F: Have you been pied before and how do you feel about potentially being pied?

J: I’ve never been pied and have been lucky to have never been a target during Pi Day. I am intimidated and hope that the pie thrower will go easy on me — and that I’ll get to eat most of it!

F: Are you excited about the fundraiser? If yes, why?

J: I’m very excited for this fundraiser. Especially during this pandemic, non profits are in need more than ever. FESA reaches grassroots learners who are most at risk and marginalized, and it is during these times that the need is further exacerbated. I am so proud to watched the organization pivot to continue reaching their learners despite this additional barrier/challenge. I’m also excited to see how many will be for/against me being pied!

F: Who are you hoping for to throw the pie at you?

J: I think it would be quite funny if my 3 year old niece would participate and throw the pie. Otherwise, someone who has the arm strength of a 3 year old would do just fine! Haha

F: Lightning pie round (first thing to pop into your head): Hot or cold?

J: Hot.

F: Cheese, ice cream, or plain?

J: Ice cream.

F: Fork or spoon?

J: Fork.

F: Cream or fruit?

J: Fruit.

F: Crust cover or no crust cover?

J: Crust cover.

F: What is your favourite FESA program?

J: My favourite — although I’m a fan of all of our programs — would have to be the Parent Child Mother Goose (PCMG) Program. The PCMG program enables parents to build early literacy skills with their children while also developing the skills of the parent. Coming from an immigrant family, I think frequently about how this could have shaped the learning environment within families like mine early on and also enabled my parents to build early literacy skills.

F: Do you hope someone will save you from being pied?

J: I’m all for entertaining our group of generous donors.

The three Board Members with the highest percentage of donations will be pied in the face at our event in September, but if we reach our goal of $10,000, all Board Members will be pied. Each Board Member has the option to be saved if you donate $1,000.
