Announcing our "Pie in the FESA" Fundraiser

With everything going on in the world right now, it’s a relief to be able to look forward to events happening later on in the year. The Further Education Society of Alberta (FESA) is thrilled to announce our "Pie in the FESA" fundraiser happening between now and August 25, 2020.

Our Board Members have bravely agreed to take a pie in the face to raise money for our free educational programs that assist in building the literacy and essential skills of Canada’s most vulnerable learners. During this self-isolation period, school-age children are being homeschooled, worried people are having to decipher fact from fiction in the news and many Calgarians are retreating into beloved books for a well-deserved break from this stressful time. Now, more than ever, literacy is an essential tool to have at home.

Between now and August 25, you can donate to the Board Member you’d like to see get pied. The three Board Members with the highest percentage of donations will take a pie in the face, but you can rescue them by donating $1000. If we reach our goal of $10,000 all participating Board Members will receive a pie in the face.

The event will take place in September 2020 and the details (location, date and time) will be announced in June 2020. We hope to livestream this event on Facebook and Instagram, in the event people are unable to make it or if the COVID-19 gathering size restrictions are still in place.

"Pie in the FESA" fundraiser is a part of FESA’s participation in the Shaw Birdies for Kids (BFK) presented by AltaLink. All donations raised by our fundraiser will be matched up to 50 per cent by BFK. Since 2013, BFK has raised over $48 million for local youth charities — helping thousands of Albertans in the process.

Land Acknowledgement

FESA acknowledges that the land upon which we work and call home is on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We are grateful to work on the territory that situates Calgary, which is known as Mohkinstsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyâxe Nakoda, as we endeavor to build a more literate and learning society allowing all to reach their potential.
