While the kids are eagerly awaiting the long summer days of sleeping in and playing in the sun, it can be stressful for parents to figure out how to keep them busy. The City of Calgary recreational day camps are often among the most affordable, with the YMCA programs coming in a close second. The UCalgary summer camps offer a wide variety of educational camps to continue your child's learning while celebrating the summer. City of Calgary Recreational Day Camps
The municipal summer camps run from July to August each year. Each recreational facility offers a variety of fun and educational day camps, activities ranging from dance to volleyball, soccer, and even outdoor adventure camps. You can register your child for one of these camps during business hours at any city-operated aquatic & recreation or arts facility.

YMCA Summer Camps

The YMCA offers fun and educational day camps. Whether your child is looking to hone their acting skills in drama camp or become the next Messi at soccer camp, YMCA has plenty of options. In addition to their day camps, their overnight camp, Camp Chief Hector, offers children the opportunity to learn valuable outdoor skills and connect with nature. 6–10-year-olds have the opportunity to attend Camp Chief Hector as a day camp, located approximately 55 minutes west of Calgary. Their day camps are offered at a variety of locations, which can be seen in the map below.
YMCA offers summer camps for age ranges from 4 to 15 in their own camp age groups.

UCalgary Summer Camps

Does your child love learning? Are they generally curious and want to get a head start learning about the mysteries of the world? Well then, you may want to look at some of the summer camps offered by UCalgary. Their camps range from fun outdoor sports to exciting science camps, like their biomedical engineering camp! Mini-university camps allow children the opportunity to dive into topics they’re passionate about and have fun while learning!

Prairie explorers camp (ages 6-7), time travelers camp (ages 10-13), home on the range camp (ages 12-15).

For kids and teens who want to explore storytelling, creativity, and self-expression.
Alexandra Writers' Centre Society (AWCS) offers youth summer writing camps in Calgary.
Prices range from $355-$385 for a weeklong camp.
For kids who want to experience life on the farm!
There are bus options available for pick-up and an optional snack & lunch add-on.
Prices increase with age, starting at $350 for the 4–6-year-old group.
For kids who want to explore nature and make art at the Leighton Art Centre.

⭐ Free Calgary Summer Camp: Manchester Kids Club 2026
And last but not least, the 2026 Manchester Kids Club Summer Edition. The Manchester community partnered with the Further Education Society of Alberta and the City of Calgary Social Work Program to offer this free 4-day summer program, with fun activities, games, and crafts. Children must bring their own water bottles, snacks, and lunch. Running from July 27-30 (4 days), 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at the Manchester Community Space. Open to ages 5-12 years old. Limited space available, with priority going to Manchester families who can attend all 4 days. The last day to sign up is July 13. Email christine.lee2@calgary.ca to register by July 6!
