Announcing new fundraiser "Cover Your FESA"

Mariah Wilson

For better or for worse, the pandemic is still affecting our daily lives. Naively, many of us thought that 2021 would bring a COVID-free fresh start, but unfortunately, we are all still stuck within the same lockdown conditions as last year. FESA recognizes the difficult situation this puts many of our participants in, so we wanted to come up with some ways to make this a little bit easier for those who may be struggling.

Firstly, we are in the motion of moving many of our programs and curricula permanently online to better serve remote and isolated learners. When it is safe to do so we will resume in-person programs, but this online platform will enable us to connect with people across Canada.

Secondly, after the incredible success of our Pie in the FESA fundraiser we have decided to embark on a secondary fundraiser called "Cover Your FESA." This fundraiser aims to provide Calgarians with access to resources and supports to handle COVID-19 safely and successfully. This will primarily be done by providing free face masks with each literacy kit that is delivered. We also want to ensure that our learners have access to the resources they need to navigate through areas like the health care system, applying for income supports, and workplace rights and regulations, through utilizing our blogs, newsletters, and literacy kits.

It's important for thousands of struggling Calgarians to have the resources and support they need to get through these hard times. Please consider donating today.

Land Acknowledgement

FESA acknowledges that the land upon which we work and call home is on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney), the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Districts 4, 5, and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We are grateful to work on the territory that situates Calgary, which is known as Mohkinstsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyâxe Nakoda, as we endeavor to build a more literate and learning society allowing all to reach their potential.
