Revisiting 25 Years of FESA Programming

Kraig Brachman

Back on March 11, we celebrated the official 25th anniversary of the Further Education Society of Alberta (FESA). It was 25 years ago in 1996 when FESA was officially incorporated. Well, it’s still our 25th anniversary, and we have a lot of pictures we couldn’t share the first go-round, so we are coming for a second nostalgic look back from over the years.

As part of our 25th Anniversary, we are holding a variety of fundraisers to continue supporting vulnerable families in Calgary. We have been raising money with the Cover Your FESA Fundraiser which will provide masks and sanitation materials, alongside the usual books and literacy tools in our literacy kits for our program participants: https://www.furthered.ca/cover-your-fesa

From June 20 to 28, we are holding the Cover Your FESA Silent Auction (givergy.ca/fesa). Many great Alberta business have kindly donated amazing items — from lessons and tickets to drinks and events. All proceeds raised will be matched by Shaw Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink up to 50%.

If you don’t see anything on the auction you want, and don’t think you can make a difference by donating directly to the Cover Your FESA Fundraiser, you can still help by texting KIDS 105 to 30333 to donate $10. FESA is part of Chip in for Kids, and every $10 text donation is matched up to $30! You can text multiple times and each text will be matched. Your phone bill will be charged directly, you don’t even need to pull out your debit card!

Land Acknowledgement

FESA acknowledges that the land upon which we work and call home is on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Goodstoney), the Otipemisiwak Métis Government (Districts 4, 5, and 6), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

We are grateful to work on the territory that situates Calgary, which is known as Mohkinstsis by the Blackfoot, Guts’ists’i by Tsuut’ina, and Wîchîspa by the Îyâxe Nakoda, as we endeavor to build a more literate and learning society allowing all to reach their potential.
